Why I'm Not Crazy About the AI Chatbot: A Creative's Perspective

Recently, I've been watching many videos on the internet about artificial intelligence and how it will change the world. I admit that I'm excited about the possibilities of AI but at the same time nervous about the negative impacts on humanity as a whole. I've used AI chatbots, and the initial enthusiasm of something incredible has passed because when I ask for creative help, the responses are incredibly uninteresting. I'm only writing this text because the internet videos (which I probably shouldn't pay attention to) promised me creative help.
Well, technology enthusiasts on the internet proclaim that ChatGPT is simply one of the best things currently. As a creative, what you must have heard is that it is a tool that will assist us, and it really can in various areas. In my attempts, however, I have found that it delivers very mediocre answers for now.
For people who don't work with creativity, it must be sensational to have a tool that can spit out several ideas (even though very common ones) in a matter of seconds. For us, I believe that most ideas seem "meh."
As an example, I tried to use Chat to help me in a naming process we did at Okta Branding. (I'm an illustrator with a background on branding!) Naming is basically the creative process of creating name ideas for something, in this case, a company. The company in question was in the food niche, more specifically, it would be a company that sold fish. For those who don't know, if you want to register and ensure that your com
pany's name is protected, it must be registrable for intelctual property, and I dare say, that is not an easy task because most names have already been created. That where our work as creatives come, to create unusual names that speak to the brand strategy and sound good to our ears.
The brainstorming and research process is the best friend in this situation, and names like OceaneFish are not nearly good enough and unique enough to be registered. I tested several "prompts" for the chat to help me with ideas, and all it could do was come up with names that lacked creativity, I would say anyone regardless of their background could create these in 5 minutes:
FinBit
AquaLicious
OceanPulse
Seafeed
FishFiesta What I concluded is that for creative things, at the moment, all that the Chat delivers are mediocre things that do not compare to our brainpower and years of experience. For other things that many get excited about, like writing a post,
I believe it serves as a base and it is actually pretty useful, but again, everything I did seemed personality-less and not authentic.
For research, it is interesting because it gives you a ready answer. Personally, even though I am 24 years old, I feel like an outdated old lady when I say this: I prefer the act of searching on Google and selecting the best articles, the best ideas, the best content, and forming my own answer.
Again, I emphasize that I don't mean to say that the tool is bad and can't help me, but I can't get as excited about what it provides me. In the end, maybe I appreciate quality and authenticity much more than the enthusiasts I see proclaiming that AI is the best thing ever created. Or maybe I'm just too demanding of a tool that is in its infancy. What I commit to doing is testing this tool more to see what advantages we can enjoy as creatives.
What about you, have you ever used ChatGPT? Did you like it? Did it help?
